(WRO) has championed the expansion of non-discriminatory housing opportunities in our region for low- to moderate-income households, minorities, senior citizens and persons with disabilities, including the psychiatrically disabled. The Bridge Fund of Westchester
The mission of The Bridge Fund is to prevent homelessness for vulnerable, working poor individuals and families who are threatened with the loss of their housing, but often do not qualify for emergency government assistance. The Bridge Fund offers financial assistance, including interest-free loans or grants which are used to resolve the immediate crisis, provides one-on-one budget counseling and monitors clients after intervention to assess the effectiveness of The Bridge Fund model.
Housing Action Council:
The Housing Action Council has a mission to increase and improve housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income households and special needs populations, including the homeless, elderly and disabled individuals throughout the Hudson Valley Region and surrounding counties.
Community Housing Innovations:
Community Housing Innovations (CHI), established in 1991, guides families and individuals from homelessness to home by providing emergency, transitional and permanent housing with an array of supportive services, home ownership counseling, education and grant assistance, foreclosure prevention counseling and affordable housing development. All programs have the end goals of housing permanency and stability.
Westchester County Office of Housing Counsel (OHC)
The Westchester County Office of Housing Counsel (OHC) ensures that financially eligible tenants have access to resources and legal representation at no cost to themselves in eviction and related proceedings. The goal of the program is to help stabilize communities and address housing insecurity. In addition to providing free legal services, the OHC coordinates access to pre-eviction support and counseling programs under one roof. Residents can call 2-1-1, where specialists at United Way 211 Helpline of the Hudson Valley will be available 24-hours a day, 365-days a year, to assess callers' needs and connect them with appropriate providers. Alternatively, residents can reach out online by completing the OHC intake form at http://housingcounsel.westchestergov.com, which OHC staff will review before connecting them with relevant services.
